Many probably know about one of the most popular hiking routes in Europe, the so-called Camino de Santiago, or the “Way of St. James”, leading to the Spanish town of Santiago de Compostela. This route starts in different countries, therefore it has a different length (200-800 km). You can find such kind of hiking routes not dependent on the landscape in several countries of the world, for example, the route along the Curonian Spit in Lithuania, the routes in the Tatra Mountains in Poland, along the Lake Balaton in Hungary, hiking routes along the Bavarian Range in Germany, etc. In Belarus we also have quite a lot of marked cycling and automobile routes passing through various cultural sights. A special infrastructure for bicycles appears on church parishes in Belarus. On the parish of st. Nicolaus of Japan in Minsk was installed a first public bike repair station. The parish is trying to be ecologically friendly and motivate parishioners to come to the service on bikes. Other parishes in Belarus will be also equipped with bicycle infrastructure until the end of 2019. For example, Lutheran parish in Grodno will have a bicycle parking, one more bike parking will be installed on the territory of Orthodox church in Bobruisk and Lauryshava Monastery. The representatives of the European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN) visited Belarus from September 29 to October 2, 2019. The visit was organized by the invitation of the Church and Environmental Protection Department of the Center for Environmental Solutions. The group consisted of the ECEN Secretary Rev. Dr Peter Pavlovic and the ECEN moderator Per Ivar Vaje from the Church of Norway. During the visit they learnt about various environmental projects carried out by the Center for Environmental Solutions that cooperates closely with the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church as well as with the Protestant churches in the country. The School of Youth Ministry was held in Vilnius on 1-4 July, 2019. It was not the first Youth Ministry School for the Department of Youth Affairs of the Vilna-Lithuanian Diocese, however this one was unique because of the close cooperation with the ‘Church and Environmental Protection’ Department of the Center for Environmental Solutions from Minsk, Belarus. It was also a beginning of church and ecology twinning project between Belarus and Lithuania and was possible thanks to support of Protestant Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (Heidelberg, Germany) and contacts that were established during ECEN meetings. An ecological trail 700 meters long runs along the local Bohinskaje Lake. The trail is equipped with stations, on each there is an information stand with a detailed description of the local flora and fauna, environmental tips and recommendations. In spring and summer, you can see live "exhibits" here. You can walk along the trail with a guided tour or on your own. A smartphone will help you to make an independent walk more meaningful: just scan a special code on the stand and you will be able to hear local birds, look at insects, plants.
